Experts from as many as thirteen different countries shared their latest research findings on the education and upbringing of children with special needs at a conference hosted by DE GYGYK [Faculty of Education for Children and Special Educational Needs of the University of Debrecen]. The conference also marked the establishment of the Special Treatment International Research Group, led by the faculty located in Hajdúböszörmény.

The University of Pattimura, Indonesia, and Debreceni Egyetem (DE) [University of Debrecen (UD)] have signed a framework agreement on cooperation that will facilitate student exchanges, faculty mobility and academic collaboration in the future, primarily in the fields of teacher training, ethnography and cultural anthropology, as well as psychological sciences.

New solutions for the automated classification of cervical cell images were developed by experts from some of the world's best universities at a scientific competition held in Houston by researchers from the University of Debrecen, Eötvös Loránd University and the University of Göttingen. By the end of what is called Pap-kenet Sejtosztályozási Kihívás [Pap Smear Cell Classification Challenge], as many as ten research teams completed their papers presenting their own solutions.

Together with its partners, Innovációs Ökoszisztéma Központ [Innovation Ecosystem Centre], of the University of Debrecen is to issue a call for participants in two student idea competitions during the month of May. The central topics of these competitions will be Campus Fesztivál and the innovative use of artificial intelligence.

The Department of Surgery of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre organized a symposium entitled Robotic Surgery for Everyone (Robotsebészet mindenkinek) on the experiences gained since the launch of the Robotic Surgery Centre last April. The event, held at the Headquarters of the Debrecen Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (DAB), was dedicated to a discussion of the place, role and results of robot-assisted surgery in clinical practice in Debrecen, including an overview of the particularities of each medical specialty.

On the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Poetry, foreign and Hungarian students wrote a few lines of their favourite poems on the glass walls of the two libraries of the University of Debrecen. It was the first time that students shared their literary thoughts on the glass walls of the Böszörményi Street Campus Library in addition to the Life and Natural Sciences Library.

A student from the Kossuth Lajos Secondary and Primary School of the University of Debrecen won the Hungarian final of Brain Bee, the prestigious international neuroscience competition for secondary school students. Áron Pankucsi-Versényi will represent Hungary in the world final of the contest in the autumn.

An international conference on muscle relaxation in surgery and related anaesthesia patient safety was organised by the Tassonyi Edömér Neuromuscular Working Group of the Department of Anaesthesiology, University of Debrecen Clinical Centre. Participants discussed the most important theoretical and practical issues related to the use of muscle relaxants in surgery during the two-day professional programme in Budapest.

Three new laboratories with world-class equipment were inaugurated on Monday at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen. Almost 600 million forints from state, university and corporate sources were spent on the modern equipment of the facilities established in the recently inaugurated wing of the Ótemető Street Campus building.
